Israel Spotlight: Neil Lazarus Visits Philadelphia

On November 10th and 11th, the Israel Center at Hillel of Greater Philadelphia hosted Neil Lazarus, an internationally acclaimed expert in the field of Middle East, Israel advocacy and effective communication training. Mr. Lazarus is a full time key note speaker and his seminars are causing a sensation. He has helped train a new generation of Israeli diplomats and student leadership worldwide.

With the help of Hillel of Greater Philadelphia (HGP) Paul Bloch, the Israel Campus Intern at Haverford-Bryn Mawr, and under the guidance of Hela Lahar, the HGP Israel Program Director, Hillel successfully coordinated speaking engagements on four local campuses. Neil spoke about Israel in the Media at Temple and Drexel and about Israeli politics at both Haverford and the University of Pennsylvania. He also prepared the Penn students for the screening of "Occupation 101" sponsored by Students for Justice in Palestine, set to take place the following day. Mr. Lazarus was engaging and the students, many of which were new to Israel programming on campus, appeared to all be involved and interested.

Additionally, many other successful Israel programs were held at Temple this semester, including but not limited to, "Make your own falafel dinner", which was the kickoff event of the semester. This event was used as a launch pad to recruit board members for Temple Students for Israel. Coming on December 2nd, in cooperation with ZOA, Hasbara and the Temple women's group there will be an Israeli martial arts (Krav Maga) event. The idea is to provide diverse Israel programming on campus appealing to different Jewish students, be it cultural or political. Through such events, Hillel aims to engage students in Israel education and contribute to furthering their Jewish journey.
