A Night Under The Lights

For students at Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, Chanukah is all about the lights. While latkes and dreidels are true crowd pleasers, the campus annual trip to the holiday lights celebration at Longwood Gardens is the pinnacle of the holiday.  Each year, the nearby famous gardens transform into a holiday celebration of light - including all religious celebrations.

This year's trip to the Gardens had 23 students join together. Students spent the bus ride singing Channukah songs and comparing family traditions, and then spent hours roaming the Garden's indoor and outdoor displays of bright lights and fragrant botanics. Students say they love the event because it is a really novel way to celebrate the light during this season of darkness.  One student remarked, "Eating latkes and playing dreidel is fun, but I can do that anywhere. When else am I going to get to take a trip off campus and see something this cool with all of my friends."
