Remembering Those Lost in Mumbai On Friday, November 28, 2008 while students, staff, and faculty were relaxing and dining with friends and family tragedy struck Mumbai, India. Many woke up to the shocking news related to terrorist attacks, vandalism, bombings, and countless deaths. Later in the day, the Jewish community mourned the confirmation that at the Nariman House, operated by Chabad-Lubavitch, Rabbi Gavriel Holtzerg and his wife, Rivka, along with 185 other victims had perished.read moreReflections: Mitzvah Mania On Sunday, November 2, Hillel of Greater Philadelphia participated in the second annual Jewish Federation Mitzvah Mania. Students came to volunteer from Temple University, Drexel Univeristy, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Jewish Graduate Student Network. read moreEducation: Learning Beyond the Classroom Formal (and informal) Jewish learning has continued to grow and expand this year on the Penn campus. Through the collaboration of students, staff, and community partners and scholars, Penn Hillel has expanded what it offers by providing an even wider variety of educational events and topics. read moreHighlights from Swarthmore The fall semester was busy for the Jewish community at Swarthmore College. A myriad of events were hosted for Jewish students ranging from Shabbat to guest lectures. There were even events for those continuously studying through Swarthmore Organization for Israel (SOFI) which organized eight study breaks scattered around campus providing relaxation time and delicious falafel, as well as information to students about the current state of the election process in Israel.read more For students at Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, Chanukah is all about the lights. While latkes and dreidels are true crowd pleasers, the campus annual trip to the holiday lights celebration at Longwood Gardens is the pinnacle of the holiday. Each year, the nearby famous gardens transform into a holiday celebration of light - including all religious celebrations. read moreCelebrating Israel Around The City Israel continues to be a focus on each of the Philadelphia campuses.
