Eastern State Penitentiary may have had the first synagogue inside an American prison... ...Come see this sacred place, newly restored with a special exhibit. Please join us as the Alfred W. Fleisher Memorial Synagogue opens to the public during The Restored Synagogue Weekend, April 4 and 5, 2009. This weekend only, meet the curators and archaeologists, and be the first to visit the reborn holy space and exhibit detailing the synagogue's history and Jewish life at ESP. Tours of the synagogue are ongoing from 10 am to 4:45 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made online at www.EasternState.org/Synagogue
