A City by the Sea of Galilee, 1000 BCE: Excavations at Kinneret – A lecture by Dr. Martti Nissinen

May 14 2009 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Location:

302 Hagerty Library, Drexel University, 33rd and Market Streets, Philadelphia, PA

Even though mentioned only once in the Hebrew Bible, Kinneret was by far the most significant city in Galilee in the Early Iron Age (ca. 1000 BCE), representing the ancient "Canaanite" city culture in the time of King David. But who were the inhabitants of the city, and why do the stories about David not mention it at all? The German-Swiss-Finnish excavations have since 1980's sought an answer to these questions. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
