The Judaic Studies Program of Drexel University presents “The Druze and Other Minorities in Israel” a lecture by the Honorable Raslan Abu Rukun, Deputy Consul General, Consulate General of Israel in Philadelphia. Who are the Druze? Where do they live? What are their beliefs? Consul Abu Rukun will describe the historical connection of the Druze to the state of Israel. He will also discuss the challenges to minorities in Israel today. Mr. Raslan Abu Rukun assumed the post of Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of Israel to the Mid-Atlantic region in June 2009. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Katmandu, Nepal. Mr. Abu Rukun was born in Osfia, Israel and graduated from Haifa University before being trained in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He will share information about the Druze experience in Israel based on his first-hand experience. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
