Jewish Life Fellows Launch Second Year

In its second year, Jewish Life Fellows, JLFs, are students involved in a variety of campus organizations, passionate about Judaism, and charged to provide Jewish programming for their peer networks. The fellowship, designed for current and future Jewish leaders, bridges Jewish campus life with secular campus organizations which have Jewish members and participants.

Jewish Life Fellows range from the Greek community, as members of a fraternity or a sorority, to residents of dormitories and campus apartments. Both cohorts provide programming and networking opportunities within these smaller niches. There are also JLF’s who concentrate on community service organizations by putting a Jewish lens on pre-existing programs.  The fellowship involves a competitive application process with final selections made by the Hillel staff.

This year’s Engagement Associate, Sarah Feinberg, will manage, mentor, and coordinate the JLF program. Fellows meet regularly to collaborate, as well as gain leadership skills focused on student engagement and programming and Jewish life and Jewish values. Each JLF is provided with a small programming budget and a stipend for their work. Additionally, they are required to run three programs throughout the semester complete with evaluations. There is no limit to the different types of groups and activities these creative students can think up. Highlights for the fall semester include: Greek Shabbat: an Intrafraternity Shabbat Celebration, Israel Movie Fest in the Residence Halls, and Hummus Happy Hours.
